About

Hello! I’m an IT Business Analyst from Manchester (UK) who’s recently become fascinated with data analytics and visualisation. This site contains data analytics resources I’ve found useful or plan to use, a collection of inspiring examples of data visualisations, and a blog about my exploration of data analytics and visualisation tools.

My Background

My experience of computers started with the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) when I was at school, and a GCSE in Information Systems. In college I did a Computing A-Level along with Maths and Further Maths. I did a Computing BSc at University and since then I’ve worked in the IT industry, mainly as a Business/Systems Analyst but also in various other roles (Tester, Test Manager, Development Manager, Programme Manager).

After working on a “Big Data” project for a Public Sector client, I became interested in learning more about Data Science, so that if I ever worked with Data Scientists, I would understand what type of information they’d need from “the business”, just as I understand what software developers need to know, as I think it helps to make me a better analyst. So I started reading up on the tools used by the Data Scientists I met, and then searched for information on alternatives, how they compare, and decided to start learning a little bit about R, and Data Science in general.

I had so many questions when my interest in Data Science began, and there are so many different elements to it – the subject is HUGE – so I thought it would be useful for me, and potentially others, to keep track of what I was reading/watching/doing and what I’d learned.
